What’s involved in a mini-split installation?

We start by sizing the unit to the room — its square footage, insulation, windows, and sun exposure — because an oversized head short-cycles and leaves the air clammy, a real issue in our humidity. Then we help you pick single-zone or multi-zone, and place the indoor head where airflow works and the wall can hide the lines.

Installation day covers mounting the indoor and outdoor units, running the line set and electrical, pulling a vacuum on the lines, charging, and testing. Most single-zone jobs wrap in a day, and as with every Budget job, the full price is approved before we start. We also repair and maintain existing mini-splits, whatever brand and whoever installed them.

What affects mini-split cost?

No dollar figures here — every home differs — but these are the levers:

• Number of zones. One head is simpler than four heads sharing a compressor.
• Capacity and efficiency. Larger rooms and higher-efficiency or cold-climate models cost more upfront.
• Line set length and routing. Longer or trickier runs between indoor and outdoor units add labor.
• Electrical work. Some installs need a new circuit or panel work.
• Wall type. Brick — common in older St. Louis housing — takes more effort than siding.
